Enid Lake Fishing Report - 9/21/2021 3:18:09 PM

Largemouth Bass

Fish topwaters in cover over main lake points very early and late in the day (or at night). Flip, pitch, or cast jigs, crankbaits, and/or soft plastics 8 - 14 ft deep on the same points midday as well as ledges, humps, or old roadbeds. Fish any cover on river and creek channel edges where the water is in the channels or up to 4 ft over the banks.

Crappie

Best luck has been for suspended fish in flooded timber or over other cover (brush tops, stake beds, etc.) with advanced electronics. Otherwise, troll/drift with jigs and/or minnows or pull or push crankbaits 14 – 22 ft deep in the main lake. A lot of short fish are being caught; use bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Catfish

Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks as long as rainfall runoff lasts. Otherwise, fish lines, jugs (noodles), or rod-and-reel over main lake flats with various natural baits.

White bass

Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points very early and late in the day; Water Valley landing, Point Pleasant, and the Wallace/Hubbard Creek area are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Fall drawdown was slowed down somewhat by recent rains. Fish will be using deeper water (river, creeks, sloughs) to move towards the main lake. Fall weather should arrive midweek; it may turn the fish off a couple of days, but they will likely move shallower. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Enid Lake Spillway

The spillway had both gates open 3.0 ft each (2190 cfs) Tuesday. Fishing is better in the spillway when some water is being released, but not too much. Spillway gate openings, flow rates, and spillway water levels can be obtained at (662)563-4571 or check at http://www.mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/docs/bullet.txt or http://www.mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/resrep.htm (click on 24 hour change for picture explanation of gate flow, spillway flow, etc.). Best luck has been for catfish with natural baits near the bottom. Fish jigs and/or minnows under a bobber for crappie in slower areas such as eddies or along the rocks. Bream fish along the rocks with crickets under a bobber. For bass, fish any cover, still water, or along the rocks in the spillway with crankbaits or spinnerbaits.

Decomposing vegetation, low oxygen in deeper water, and a bottom outlet from the lake above result in releasing hydrogen sulfide gas (“rotten egg gas”) into the spillway.

Enid Lake Fishing Report - 8/31/2021 3:19:22 PM

Bass: Fish topwaters in cover on points very early and late in the day (or at night). Flip, pitch, or cast jigs, crankbaits, and/or soft plastics 8 - 14 ft deep on the same points midday as well as ledges, humps, or old roadbeds. A club tournament this past Saturday was won with 21.42 lb (5 fish); big bass (not in the winning bag) was 6.91.

Crappie: There have been some good reports jigging in standing timber in the upper end.

Few reports on bream.

Catfish: Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks as long as runoff lasts. Otherwise, fish lines, jugs (noodles), or rod-and-reel over main lake flats with various natural baits.

White bass: Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points very early and late in the day; Water Valley landing, Point Pleasant, and the Wallace/Hubbard Creek area are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Enid Lake Fishing Report - 6/29/2021 3:10:05 PM
Expect a lot of holiday boating traffic this week. Have a safe Fourth of July weekend!

Bass: Fish frogs or other topwaters in cover on points very early and late in the day. Flip, pitch, or cast jigs and/or soft plastics deeper on the same points midday.

Crappie: Either troll/drift with jigs and/or minnows, pull or push crankbaits, or jig using advanced electronics 14 – 22 ft deep in the main lake. Fishing should improve when the water is drawn back down out of the cover (about 255 – 250 ft). A lot of short fish are being caught; use bigger baits and fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Few reports lately for bream.

Catfish: Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks if there is rainfall runoff. Or, fish lines, jugs (noodle) or rod-and-reel over main lake flats. Channel cats have moved shallow around the rocks and rip-rap; fish natural baits under a bobber. Few grabbling reports.

Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points; Water Valley landing, Point Pleasant, and the Wallace/Hubbard Creek area are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Enid Lake Fishing Report - 6/15/2021 5:16:58 PM

The water level rose 11.7 ft due to heavy rains since last week's report. Expect reduced boating access at certain ramps and lots of flooded vegetation.

High water scattered bass into the bushes. Fish frogs or other topwaters near cover early and late in the day. Flip or pitch jigs deeper in shoreline cover in the main lake midday. A May 23 tournament was won with 26.70 lb (5 fish); big fish was 6.50.

Fishing has been tough with the water rise. Best luck has been trolling crankbaits or jigs and/or minnows 14 to 22 ft deep. Some have started jigging flooded vegetation. The Magnolia Crappie Club tournament Friday was won with 10.88 lb (7 fish); big fish was 1.99. Fishing was tough; 19 of 49 teams weighed in a 7 fish tournament limit. Trollers were also landing some catfish and White Bass. A lot of short fish are being caught; use bigger baits and fish deeper to target larger crappie. Jig anglers with advanced electronics are better able to target keepers. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; dead fish don't grow.

Few reports on bream lately. Expect them to feed up in flooded areas. Fish 2 - 4 ft deep under a bobber.

Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks as long as there is rainfall runoff. Then, fish recently flooded flats. Channel cats have moved shallow around the rocks and rip-rap; fish natural baits under a bobber. Few grabbling reports. If you had boxes out before the rise, you will need scuba gear to find and run them.

Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points; Water Valley landing, Point Pleasant, and the Wallace/Hubbard Creek area are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Expect fishing to improve as the water level stabilizes, clears, and starts to fall again. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Short crappie being caught now are either 2-year-old fish (big 2019 spawn) averaging about 8 - 9 inches or 3-year-old fish (big 2018 spawn) averaging just under 12 inches. 2018 crappie should grow to legal size mid-summer through fall. It may not seem like they're growing because most will be harvested as soon as they're legal. Unlike the last few springs, extremely high water did not protect keeper fish from heavy spring harvest.

The spillway had both gates closed (0 cfs) Tuesday PM. Expect them to be opened very slowly this week. When flow resumes, best luck should be for catfish, White Bass, and crappie. For catfish, fish natural baits near the bottom. For White Bass, fish shad-imitating lures (jigs, small crankbaits) in the current. Fish for crappie in slower areas such as eddies or along the rocks; fish jigs and/or minnows under a bobber. For bass, fish any cover, still water, or along the rocks in the spillway with crankbaits, soft plastics, or a bladed jig.

Enid Lake Fishing Report - 6/8/2021 5:11:49 PM

A May 23 tournament was won with 26.70 lb (5 fish); big fish was 6.50.

Crappie are being caught trolling crankbaits or jigs and/or minnows 14 to 22 ft deep. There is a Magnolia Crappie Club tournament Friday, June 11.

Catfish: Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks as long as rainfall runoff lasts this week. Channel cats have moved shallow around the rocks and rip-rap; fish natural baits under a bobber. Other catfish are more focused on spawning than eating. Otherwise, fish rod-and-reel, noodles (jugs), or trotlines over main lake flats. Grabbling season started May 1; fish should be in the boxes.

White Bass: Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points; Water Valley landing, Point Pleasant, and the Wallace/Hubbard Creek area are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Channel cats have moved shallow around the rocks and rip-rap; fish natural baits under a bobber. Other catfish are more focused on spawning than eating. Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks if we get rainfall runoff this week. Otherwise, fish rod-and-reel, noodles (jugs), or trotlines over main lake flats. Grabbling season started May 1; fish should be moving into the boxes, but still few reports.

White Bass are mostly back in the main lake. Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points; Water Valley landing, Point Pleasant, and the Wallace/Hubbard Creek area are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Short crappie being caught now are either 2-year-old fish (big 2019 spawn) averaging about 8 - 9 inches or 3-year-old fish (big 2018 spawn) averaging just under 12 inches. 2018 crappie should grow to legal size mid-summer through fall. Enid Lake - 5/11/2021 3:53:55 PM
Largemouth Bass are still shallow in the backs of creeks, coves, and any flooded cover. They should remain there until the water gets too warm. Fish spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover for reaction bites; newly flooded vegetation will reveal channels and sloughs. Keep a soft plastic bait rigged to follow up missed strikes. If you can find planted cover (brush piles, stake beds, etc.) in deeper water (6 – 10 ft), it might be worth checking with weedless soft plastics.

Crappie: With the cool water, most crappie are still transitioning from spawning areas to deeper water. Jig, drift, or troll 4 – 12 ft deep with jigs and/or minnows out from spawning areas and mouths of creek coves. Expect some catfish or White Bass while trolling.

Bream are in the same areas as bass, but should move into shallow grass to feed on flooded worms, etc. Fish redworms or crickets 1 - 4 ft deep under a bobber. Look for bedding fish over a firm bottom (sand, gravel, or packed dirt – including flooded roads and 4-wheeler trails).

Fish worms or stink baits in the river and creeks during rainfall runoff and over newly flooded flats. Fish various natural baits on rod-and-reel, noodles (jugs), or trotlines. Grabbling season started May 1 and folks have been putting out boxes, but a new moon this week plus cool weather and water temperatures are prompting few spawners. No reports yet.

White Bass are moving down the river and creeks to the main lake; fish jigs or small crankbaits. Otherwise, use the same baits over sandy main lake points.

Enid Lake Spillway

Gates have been cut back since the reservoir is below rule curve. Best luck should be for crappie, catfish, and White Bass. For catfish, fish natural baits near the bottom. For White Bass, fish shad-imitating lures (jigs, small crankbaits) in the current. Some 2+ lb White Bass have been landed recently. Fish for crappie in slower areas such as eddies or along the rocks; fish jigs and/or minnows under a bobber. For bass, fish any cover, still water, or along the rocks in the spillway with crankbaits, soft plastics, or a bladed jig.

Enid Lake - 4/27/2021 3:50:34 PM

The spillway had one gate open 0.5 ft (165 cfs) Tuesday. Fishing is better in the spillway when some water is being released, but not too much.

Enid has been the least affected of the Big 4 from recent rains; it is the only one still below summer pool. Cool weather is predicted this week, so fish should not rush through spawning. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Enid Lake - 3/30/2021 4:16:02 PM

Alert

Work continues on the bridge to the dam from I-55 (they are close!), but the road will remain closed until the bridge is finished. Continue to use marked detours.

Largemouth Bass are moving from major creek coves (secondary points) up into creeks. Fish soft plastics, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover.

Crappie: Last weekend’s rise and cold front slowed the fishing. Fish are scattered and moving into major creek coves and up creeks as they stage for spawning. Trollers have been picking up fish 7 - 9 ft deep. Jig polers have been fishing 4 – 6 ft deep. Folks were catching fish wading before the weekend's rain, but that has slowed down since. Fish jigs and/or minnows.

Bream are in the same places as bass. Fish redworms under a bobber.

Catfishing will be the best bet under current conditions. Fish worms or stink baits in the river and creeks as long as the rainfall runoff lasts. Otherwise, various natural baits on rod-and-reel, noodles (jugs), or trotlines over newly flooded flats.

White Bass have started their spawning run up the river and creeks (esp. Otocoulofa); fish jigs or small crankbaits. Otherwise, use the same baits over sandy main lake points.

The water level at Enid has been the least affected of the Big 4 from recent rains, but the mid-week cold front will delay spawning activities. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Enid Lake - 3/23/2021 4:11:49 PM

Largemouth Bass are moving from main lake points into major creek coves (secondary points) and up creeks. Fish soft plastics, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover.

Crappie: Last week’s rise and cold front slowed the fishing, especially the shallow bite. Fish are scattered and moving into major creek coves and up creeks as they stage for spawning. Trollers have been picking up fish 7 - 9 ft deep. Jig polers have been fishing 3 – 6 ft deep. Jigs and/or minnows have been used by all.

Enid Lake - 3/2/2021 2:39:32 PM

The water level rose about 5 ft since last Tuesday's report. More boat ramps are accessible.

Largemouth bass should be congregated on Engineer's Point and the dam, but also around any cover in the main lake; fish soft plastics, jigging spoons, or a bladed jig.

Crappie: Jig, drift, or troll jigs and/or minnows around the dam, marina, or over the river channel in the main lake, or jig in any cover.

Bream usually hold in similar areas as bass. Fish redworms under a bobber.

Catfish fish various natural baits on rod-and-reel, noodles (jugs), or trotlines over recently flooded flats or on worms or stink baits in tributaries as long as rainfall runoff lasts.

Some White Bass may be running up the river and creeks. Try jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits. Otherwise, fish the same baits off sandy points in the main lake or around Engineer's Point and off the dam near the spillway gates.
