Gun Dog Training

Wirehaired Pointing Griffon Trainer Aaron Barton with Barton Outfitters and son Cal work on retrieves to hand with four year old Griff Dublin at Little Q Ranch in Oxford, MS.

NAVHDA defines a versatile hunting dog as one “that is bred and trained to dependably hunt and point game, to retrieve on both land and water, and to track wounded game on both land and water.” ~ NAVHDA Aims, Programs, Test Rules.

We offer versatile hunting dog training on a limited basis out of our home. We accept only one dog (or two from same family) at a time and only train during certain months for the following reasons: each dog that we train becomes a member of our household, which includes two adults, two children and a working wirehaired pointing griffon, each dog will be hunted over game, and each dog will receive daily obedience and yard work. Your dog will sleep in our house and will be allowed reasonable roam at most times. Your dog will accompany me on paid and unpaid guided hunts throughout the hunting season because we believe that live hunt exposure is the most effective and quickest way to produce a quality hunting companion. We accept the following breeds: Blue Picardy Spaniel, Bracco Italiano, Braque d’Auvergne, Braque du Bourbonnais, Braque Francais, Braque St. Germain, Brittany, Cesky Fousek, Drentsche Patrijshond, English Setter, French Spaniel, German Longhair, German Shorthaired Pointer, German Wirehaired Pointer, Gordon Setter, Irish Red & White Setter, Irish Setter, Large Munsterlander, Perdiguero de Burgos, Picardy Spaniel, Pointer, Portuguese Pointer, Pudelpointer, Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer, Small Munsterlander, Spinone, Stichelhaar, Vizsla, Weimaraner, Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, and Wirehaired Vizsla. Versatile hunting dog training is offered on an extremely limited basis. Training starts at $1,000 per month.
