Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 9/26/2023 3:15:53 PM

Bass Fish shallow cover (brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.) early and late in the day with topwaters or other “search baits” (spinnerbaits, bladed jigs), but have another rod rigged with soft plastics to follow up on missed strikes. Midday, fish main lake points (best reports), humps, or flooded roadbeds with crankbaits or soft plastics. The edges of river and creek channels (0 to 4 ft of water over them) has been good with the water falling.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 and MDWFP creel surveys say fishing has been fair. Single pole, troll, or drift jigs and/or minnows 6 to 16 ft deep (fish move deeper as the sun rises) for suspended fish along standing timber edges about halfway down either main lake river arm or over main lake flats. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.BreamFish crickets or redworms 4 - 7 ft deep under a bobber near any cover (timber, stake beds, brush tops, riprap, etc.).

Catfish Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs), trotlines, or rod-and-reel over main lake flats or in the rivers and creeks as fish move to the main lake.

White Bass Cast jigs or small crankbaits over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. The main lake point where the rivers join is always a good spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

Fall drawdown is underway; fish will be moving via creek and river channels towards the main lake. It's fall, but it doesn't feel like it yet. Nights will be a little cooler this week. No matter what the Tuesday fishing report says, always check the links in the "Water Level" section for the lake's current level and if it's rising or falling. A big rain can change conditions quickly. Adjust to current conditions like the fish do. Except for catfish, fishing is usually better on a slow fall than a fast rise. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

"Constriction points" like river and creek channels and bridge crossings have been concentrating fish moving down the lake. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Bream Fish crickets or redworms 4 - 7 ft deep under a bobber near any cover (wood, stake beds, brush tops, stumps, riprap, etc.).

Midday, fish main lake points (best reports), humps, or flooded roadbeds with crankbaits or soft plastics.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 and MDWFP creel surveys say fishing has been slow lately in the heat. Start early for more bites; they slow down by 10 AM. Single pole, troll, or drift jigs and/or minnows 12 to 18 ft deep (fish move deeper as the sun rises) for suspended fish in the mouths of major creek coves, standing timber, or main lake flats. Some folks have had success trolling crankbaits.

Catfish Catfishing has been fair. Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over mudflats or riprap or fish worms or stink baits on rod-and-reel or trotlines in the rivers and creeks after rainfall.

White Bass Cast jigs or small crankbaits over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. The main lake point where the rivers join is always a good spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 6/27/2023 4:04:33 PM

Largemouth Bass Fish cover on creek channel edges or deeper cover (brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.) with “search baits” like buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs, but have another rod rigged with soft plastics to follow up on missed strikes. Isolated humps, flooded roadbeds (especially bridges), secondary points in coves, and main lake points should also hold bass. Early AM on main lake points has been best. A June 10 club event was won with 18.19 lb (5 fish). Big bass was 5.74, and all but one team weighed in a 5 fish limit.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 and MDWFP creel surveys say fishing has slowed recently even though fish are being seen on screen. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish. The 4th Annual PTG Crappie Crank'n Classic Saturday was won with 9.38 lb (5 fish limits); big fish was 2.41.

Bream Few reports lately. Fish crickets or redworms 4 - 7 ft deep under a bobber near any cover (wood, stake beds, brush tops, stumps, etc.).

Catfish Catfishing is picking back up. Catfish are pestering crappie crankbait trollers. Fish various natural baits (or troll crankbaits!) on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over mudflats or riprap or fish worms or stink baits on rod-and-reel or trotlines in the rivers and creeks after rainfall. Grabbling reports are declining lately.

White BassCast jigs or small crankbaits over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. The main lake point where the rivers join is always a good spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

With very little current moving through, fishing is slow. Fish early AM or late PM (or at night) and take precautions because of extreme heat this week.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 6/13/2023 3:49:53 PM

Isolated humps, flooded roadbeds (especially bridges), secondary points in coves, and main lake points should also hold bass.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 and MDWFP creel surveys say fishing has slowed recently even though fish are being seen on screen. Starting early gets more bites; they slow down by 10 AM. Single pole, troll, or drift jigs and/or minnows 12 to 14 ft deep for suspended fish in the mouths of major creek coves, standing timber, or main lake flats. Some folks have had success trolling crankbaits. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Bream Few reports lately. Fish crickets or redworms 3 - 5 ft deep under a bobber near any cover (wood, stake beds, brush tops, stumps, etc.).

Catfishing has slowed down as fish are focused more on spawning than eating, except for smaller fish. Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over mudflats or riprap or fish worms or stink baits on rod-and-reel or trotlines in the rivers and creeks after rainfall. There have been more grabbling reports lately.

White bass Cast jigs or small crankbaits over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. The main lake point where the rivers join is always a good spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

The water rose from recent rains and runoff; the rise has kind of messed up the fishing (except for catfish). Expect the water to be drawn back down unless there is more rain.

Grenada Lake - 6/6/2023 4:43:58 PM
Bass are moving toward the main lake. Fish cover on creek channel edges or deeper cover (brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.) with “search baits” like buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs, but have another rod rigged with soft plastics to follow up on missed strikes. The flooded roadbeds (especially bridges), secondary points in coves, and main lake points may also hold bass. A tournament Saturday was won with 17.48 lb (5 fish). Big bass was 4.28 lb, and 11 of 15 teams brought in a 5-fish bag.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 and MDWFP creel surveys say to single pole, troll, or drift jigs and/or minnows 12 to 14 ft deep for suspended fish in the mouths of major creek coves, standing timber, or main lake flats. Some folks have had success trolling crankbaits. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Bream Reports from the Turkey Creek area are to fish crickets or redworms 3 - 5 ft deep under a bobber near any cover (wood, stake beds, brush tops, stumps, etc.).

Catfishing has slowed down as fish are focused more on spawning than eating.

There are no size or number limits on white bass.

The water is warming and falling slowly - fish are moving to the main lake via deeper channels.

Grenada Lake - 5/9/2023 4:31:29 PM
Largemouth Bass When the gates reopen, bass will be moving out via ditches and creeks as the water falls. Fish vegetation on creek channel edges or deeper cover (brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.) with “search baits” like buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs, but have another rod rigged with soft plastics to follow up on missed strikes. The flooded roadbeds (especially bridges) and secondary points in coves may also hold bass.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 says to fish jigs and/or minnows 6 to 10 ft deep for suspended fish in the mouths of major creek coves, standing timber, or main lake flats. They are still scattered, so advanced electronics help. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

No bream reports. Fish redworms 4 - 6 ft under a bobber near any cover (riprap, stake beds, brush tops, stumps, etc.).

Catfishing has been good. Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over mudflats or fish worms or stink baits on rod-and-reel or trotlines in the rivers and creeks after rainfall. Although grabbling season is open, the water is a little cool for catfish spawning.

White bass Cast jigs or small crankbaits in the rivers and creeks over a sandy bottom or over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

The water is warming but still too cool for fish to move deep.

Crappie start to spawn when average daily water temperature at “fish depth” is about 58, peak at about 65, and end at about 75 F. Timing and duration of the spawn depends on temperature and water level trends, weather fronts, and moon phases. Fish will spawn shallower in rising water, deeper in falling water. Bigger females usually spawn first. Males of any size can be caught throughout the spawn. Males will stay on the nest until eggs hatch and fry swim up (4 - 7 days) even if the water rises or falls (unless the nest gets too shallow). Males of both Black and White Crappie get darker during the spawn; females do not change color. Historically, crappie spawn on the flood control reservoirs from the last week of March until about the first week of May, but it may shift earlier, later, or be split into two or more peaks due to weather and water fluctuations.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 4/25/2023 2:50:32 PM

Bass will look for the clearest water possible. Male bass should be spawning or guarding fry in the backs of coves; don’t overlook gravel roads or 4-wheeler trails through recently flooded vegetation. Unless they are spawning, females will be holding on cover in the nearest deeper water to those coves. Fish bank cover or deeper cover (brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.) in coves with soft plastics (including frogs), bladed jigs, or buzzbaits. Channels and secondary points in coves may also hold bass.

Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 has been getting fewer reports of crappie biting. Fish jigs and/or minnows 1.5 – 6 ft deep either in spawning areas (males and females) in flooded cover or holding deeper out from spawning areas (pre- and post-spawn females). Some folks are picking up suspended fish on open water main lake flats. Advanced electronics help.

Catfishing has been improving. Fish various natural baits (fish worms shallow in recently flooded areas) on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over mudflats or fish on worms or stink baits on rod-and-reel or trotlines in the rivers and creeks after rainfall.

Most white bass have moved back to the main lake; some spawners will be in the rivers and creeks. Cast jigs or small crankbaits in the rivers and creeks over a sandy bottom or over hard-bottomed, sandy main lake points. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

MDWFP electrofishing last Thursday in coves near the dam found catfish feeding and crappie, carp, buffalo, and gar spawning in the shallows. Smaller crappie have moved in shallow, but there were still legal fish in the mix. Best spots for spawning crappie were under cypress trees with lots of roots or in flooded grass where the grass was just showing at the surface. Carp and gar were in shallower grass. A firm (not mucky) bottom was best. A few bass were also seen in similar areas.

Prepare for a cool, rainy week. Grenada Lake - 4/18/2023 4:01:59 PM

Construction has begun on replacing the Skuna River bridge at Gums Crossing. Watch for work crews in the area. The structure that you can't get a boat under at the current water level is a temporary structure to allow building the permanent bridge.

Bass will look for the clearest water possible. Male bass should be spawning (deeper than last week) or guarding fry in the backs of coves; don’t overlook gravel roads or 4-wheeler trails through recently flooded vegetation.

Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 reports folks have been having trouble finding fish. Wading anglers should be fishing jigs and/or minnows 1.5 – 6 ft deep either in spawning areas (males and females) in newly flooded cover or holding deeper out from spawning areas (pre- and post-spawn females). Some folks are picking up suspended fish on open water main lake flats. Advanced electronics help. Fish bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

MDWFP electrofishing last Friday in the Young's Landing area found catfish feeding and crappie, carp, shad, buffalo, and gar spawning in the shallows. Crappie were fewer and more scattered in bushes than in flooded grass. A firm (not mucky) bottom was best. A few bass were also seen.

No matter what the Tuesday fishing report says, always check the links in the "Water Level" section for the lake's current level and if it's rising or falling. Grenada Lake - 10/18/2022 3:24:57 PM

Bass Fish shallow (topwaters, spinnerbaits) early and late in the day. Midday, fish main lake points, humps, flooded roadbeds, or the edges of rivers or creeks 4 to 10 ft deep with soft plastics, bladed jigs, crankbaits, or spinnerbaits around any cover (rocks, brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.).

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 reports crappie have shallowed up with cooler weather. Best luck has been jigging, drifting, or trolling jigs and/or minnows 6 - 8 ft deep. Fish standing timber along river and creek channels, creek mouths, or over other cover (brush tops, stake beds, etc.). Use bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Bream Fish crickets or redworms 4 - 6 ft under a bobber near any cover.

Catfish Fish natural baits in the rivers and creeks as catfish move toward the main lake. Otherwise, fish main lake flats with rod-and-reel, jugs (noodles), or trotlines with various natural baits.

White Bass Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits over sandy main lake points early AM or late PM. The main point between the two rivers is a prime spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

Near record cold temperatures may turn the fish off temporarily, but temperatures should return to normal by the weekend.

Fall drawdown is underway; fish will use the rivers and creeks as they follow deeper channels to the main lake. Check water level trends; except for catfish, fishing is usually better on a slow fall than a fast rise. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Grenada Lake - 10/4/2022 4:39:57 PM

Bass Fish shallow (topwaters, spinnerbaits) early and late in the day or at night. Midday, fish main lake points, humps, flooded roadbeds, or the edges of rivers or creeks 6 to 10 ft deep with soft plastics, bladed jigs, crankbaits, or spinnerbaits around any cover (rocks, brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.). A recent club tournament had a 4 fish limit. Winning weight was over 16 lb, big fish was about 5.5 lb.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 has received reports of crappie caught from water less than 5 ft deep to 20 ft deep. This indicates the lake has turned over with good oxygen levels top to bottom. Best luck has been drifting or trolling jigs and/or minnows or pulling crankbaits. Otherwise, fish standing timber along river and creek channels, creek mouths, or over other cover (brush tops, stake beds, etc.). Use bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

White Bass Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits over sandy main lake points early AM or late PM. The main point between the two rivers is a prime spot. There are no size or number limits on white bass.

Fall weather will dominate until a dry front brings cooler temperatures by the weekend, which may turn the fish off temporarily. Falling water puts fish on the move; they will concentrate in the rivers and creeks as they follow deeper channels to the main lake. Check water level trends; except for catfish, fishing is usually better on a slow fall than a fast rise. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 9/20/2022 4:19:14 PM

Bass Fish shallow (topwaters, spinnerbaits) early and late in the day or at night. Midday, fish main lake points, humps, flooded roadbeds, or the edges of rivers or creeks 6 to 10 ft deep with soft plastics, bladed jigs, crankbaits, or spinnerbaits around any cover (rocks, brush tops, stake beds, timber, etc.). A club tournament Saturday had a 4 fish limit. Winning weight was over 16 lb, big fish was about 5.5 lb.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 reports the falling water has fish on the move, but they will bite when found. The Magnolia Crappie Club tournament last Saturday was won with 17.19 lb (7 fish); big fish was 2.72, and nearly 80% of teams brought in a 7 fish tournament limit. The Crappie Masters tournament is this Friday and Saturday. Best luck has been drifting or trolling jigs and/or minnows or pulling crankbaits 10 – 15 ft deep in 15 – 20 ft of water.

Bream Fish crickets or redworms 4 - 6 ft under a bobber near any cover.

Catfish Catfishing has been fairly slow. Fish natural baits in the rivers and creeks if there is rainfall runoff.

Fall starts this week, but it will feel like summer. Fall drawdown has fish on the move; they will concentrate in the rivers and creeks as they follow deeper channels to the main lake. Check water level trends; except for catfish, fishing is usually better on a slow fall than a fast rise. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 reports the falling water has fish on the move and a challenge to find. They will bite when found, though. Expect extra boats this week with the American Crappie Trail tournament Friday and Saturday. Best luck has been drifting or trolling jigs and/or minnows or pulling crankbaits 12 – 15 ft deep in 15 – 20 ft of water. Otherwise, fish standing timber along river and creek channels, creek mouths, or over other cover (brush tops, stake beds, etc.). Use bigger baits and/or fish deeper to target larger crappie. Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 5/24/2022 3:56:14 PM

Bass Fish shallow (topwaters, spinnerbaits) early and late in the day. Fish secondary and main lake points midday (any cover is a plus) 4 to 7 ft deep with soft plastics, bladed jigs, or spinnerbaits.

The Magnolia Crappie Club tournament May 21 was won with 17.56 lb (7 fish); a 6 fish, 17.77 lb bag took second place because of a dead fish penalty. Big fish was 3.12. Nearly 60% of teams weighed in a 7 fish tournament limit. Use bigger baits and fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Grenada Lake Spillway The spillway had one gate open 9.75 ft (2990 cfs) Tuesday. Fishing is better in the spillway when some water is being released, but not too much. Catfishing (including flatheads) has picked up lately; fish natural baits near the bottom under a slip-cork to keep the bait out of the rocks. For crappie, fish jigs and/or minnows 1.5 - 3 ft deep under a bobber along the rocks or in the old river run. White bass will be in the current where you can drift a 2-jig rig just off bottom or fish small crankbaits or tailspinner lures. For largemouths, fish crankbaits or spinnerbaits along the rocks; the rock point near the pier and old river run is a good spot. Spillway gate openings, flow rates, and spillway water levels can be obtained at (662)226-5911 or check at http://mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/docs/bullet.txt or http://www.mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/resrep.htm (click on 24-hour change for picture explanation of gate flow, spillway flow, etc.). Be sure to check the date on the table; it is usually updated midday.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 11/23/2021 9:40:59 AM
Bass Fish jerkbaits, jigs, and/or soft plastics 4 - 8 ft deep on main lake points (any cover helps), as well as humps, ledges, and flooded roadbeds and bridges. Also, fish any cover on river and creek channel edges where the water is in the channels or up to 4 ft over the banks. Folks walking creek banks should be able to catch a few.

Crappie Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports best luck has either been scoping jigs for fish suspended in flooded timber or over other cover (stake beds, etc.) or trolling jigs and/or minnows 6 – 10 ft deep (or deeper) in the main lake. Trollers are catching some catfish and white bass. A lot of short crappie are being caught; use bigger baits and fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Catfish Fish natural baits in the rivers and creeks as fish move to the main lake. Otherwise, fish natural baits (ex. shad, flavored chicken) over main lake flats with lines, jugs (noodles), or rod-and-reel.

Bream Few reports lately. Bream should be in the same areas as bass.

White Bass Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points early and late in the day; Choctaw Point and the main lake point where the rivers meet are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Water levels are falling faster than usual, which means fish are moving out faster. All kinds of fish will be using deeper water (river, creeks, sloughs) to move to the main lake. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Normal timing of fall drawdown lets vegetation colonize and grow on exposed mudflats until killed by frost. High water and late drawdowns prevent that growth. Next spring, the water will rise over bare mudflats with no vegetation to provide fish habitat and wave protection.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 9/21/2021 3:55:47 PM

Largemouth Bass

Fish topwaters in cover over main lake points very early and late in the day (or at night). Best luck has either been scoping jigs for fish suspended in flooded timber or over other cover (stake beds, etc.) or trolling pink or orange crankbaits or jigs and/or minnows 12 – 16 ft deep in the main lake.

Other

Fall drawdown slowed down some with recent rains. Fall weather will arrive midweek; expect it to turn the fish off a couple of days, but they should move shallower. Fish will be using deeper water (river, creeks, sloughs) to move towards the main lake. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Short crappie this spring were either 2-year-old fish (big 2019 spawn) averaging about 8 - 9 inches or 3-year-old fish (big 2018 spawn) averaging just under 12 inches. 2018 crappie should grow to legal size mid-summer through fall.

Grenada Lake Spillway

The spillway had one gate open 8.0 ft (2525 cfs) Tuesday. Spillway gate openings, flow rates, and spillway water levels can be obtained at (662)226-5911 or check at http://mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/docs/bullet.txt or http://www.mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/resrep.htm (click on 24 hour change for picture explanation of gate flow, spillway flow, etc.). Be sure to check the date on the table as it is not always updated daily. Fishing is better when some water is being released, but not too much. Best luck has been for catfish; fish nightcrawlers, cut shad and other natural baits under a big slip cork held just above the bottom with a 1 - 2 oz weight. Live baits (bream, goldfish) are better for flatheads, but expect fewer bites. More crappie have shown up lately near the pier and old river run; fish along the rocks with a jig and/or small minnow under a bobber; expect some catfish, too. A few largemouths are biting crankbaits and spinnerbaits along the rocks. Expect some rough fish (gar, buffalo, drum, etc.).

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 8/31/2021 3:35:44 PM

Hurricane Ida's rainfall has delayed the drawdown, but expect it to resume soon. Fish will be using deeper water (river, creeks, sloughs) to move towards the main lake. A cool front this week may temporarily turn the fish off, but it will make fishing more bearable. Most folks are fishing very early AM with the hot weather.

Catfish: Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks as long as there is rainfall runoff. Then, fish recently flooded flats. Channel cats have moved shallow around the rocks and rip-rap; fish natural baits under a bobber. Few grabbling reports. If you had boxes out before the rise, you will need scuba gear to find and run them.

White Bass: Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points; Choctaw Point, near Turkey-Skuna ramp, and the main lake point where the rivers meet are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

Fishing has been slow since the recent rise. Expect it to improve as the water level stabilizes and starts to fall again. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

MDWFP electrofishing completed in November 2020 found bass in 5 ft or less; crappie were usually 5 ft deep or deeper. Most bass were less than 2 pounds, but they ranged up to 6. Bream and catfish were with the bass, and White Bass were over sandy banks. All sizes of crappie up to nearly 3 lb were seen. All trophy crappie were Ages 5+ or 6+ years old (now Ages 6 or 7 this spring; hatched 2015 or 2014).

Catfishing has been very good lately (mostly blues and flatheads); fish various natural baits under a big slip bobber held just off the bottom with a 1 - 2 oz weight. Largemouths and a few White Bass are biting crankbaits and tailspinner lures. White Bass are in the current, largemouths are along the rocks or other off-current areas. For crappie, fish the old river run or along the rocks with a jig and/or minnow under a bobber.

Grenada Lake Fishing Report - 5/25/2021 4:32:28 PM

Largemouth Bass are moving deeper with warmer weather. Fish 1 – 4 ft deep with buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, etc. early and late in the day and 8 – 12 ft deep midday with crankbaits or soft plastics, especially weedless lures in planted cover (brush piles, stake beds, etc.).

Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports fishing has been tough with a strong easterly wind all last week. The Crappie USA tournament Saturday was won with 15.11 lb (7 fish); big fish was 2.55 lb. Top finishers were scoping skittish fish in 16 – 22 ft of water on or near the bottom fishing black, red, or orange and chartreuse jigs and/or minnows midway up either river arm. Folks are also starting to troll the main lake with jigs and/or minnows or crankbaits. Trollers are catching some catfish and White Bass. A lot of short fish are being caught; use bigger baits and fish deeper to target larger crappie. Replace treble hooks with single hooks and/or pinch down the barbs to make releasing short fish faster and less damaging; it does no good to release dead fish.

Bream should be spawning this week with a full moon. Fish redworms or crickets 2 - 4 ft deep under a bobber and over a firm bottom (sand, gravel, or packed dirt – including flooded roads and 4-wheeler trails).

Channel cats have moved shallow around the rocks and rip-rap; fish natural baits under a bobber. Other catfish are more focused on spawning than eating. Fish various natural baits in the river and creeks if we get rainfall runoff this week. Otherwise, fish rod-and-reel, noodles (jugs), or trotlines over main lake flats. Grabbling season started May 1; fish should be moving into the boxes, but still few reports.

White Bass are mostly back in the main lake. Fish jigs, spinners, or small crankbaits off sandy points; Choctaw Point, near Turkey-Skuna ramp, and the main lake point where the rivers meet are good spots. There are no size or number limits on White Bass.

The spillway had one gate open 12.0 ft (3795 cfs) Tuesday AM. Fishing is better when some water is being released, but not too much. Grenada Lake - 5/11/2021 4:21:05 PM
Largemouth Bass are still shallow in the backs of creeks, coves, and any flooded cover. Fish spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover for reaction bites. Keep a soft plastic bait rigged to follow up missed strikes. A tournament 5/1 was won with 14.84 lb (5 fish); big bass was 4.88. Although not many big fish were caught, 77% of teams weighed in a 5 fish limit.

Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports crappie fishing has been tough lately with cool, rising, muddy water. Fish 3 – 5 ft deep with a black, red, or orange/chartreuse jig and/or minnow for any lingering spawners (mostly short fish now) or 8 - 10 ft deep for fish moving to deeper water. Trollers have been picking up some catfish and White Bass. The American Crappie Trail tournament will be Friday and Saturday.

Bream are in the same areas as bass. Fish redworms or crickets 2 - 4 ft deep under a bobber. Look for bedding fish over a firm bottom (sand, gravel, or packed dirt – including flooded roads and 4-wheeler trails).

Catfishing has been good. Fish worms or stink baits in the rivers and creeks in rainfall runoff. Otherwise, fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over flooded flats. Grabbling season started May 1 and folks have been putting out boxes, but a new moon this week plus cool weather and water temperatures are prompting few spawners. No reports yet.

White Bass are moving down the rivers and creeks; fish jigs or small crankbaits. Otherwise, use the same baits over sandy main lake points.

Grenada is high from cool, heavy rain events with more rain predicted. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Grenada Lake - 4/27/2021 3:49:58 PM

Largemouth Bass are spawning in the backs of creeks, smaller coves, and flooded gravel roads and 4-wheeler trails. Other bass may be moving in (pre-spawn) or out (post-spawn) of similar areas. Fish soft plastics, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover.

Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports crappie fishing has been slow with fish still scattered in flooded vegetation. Fish 3 – 5 ft deep with a black, red, or orange/chartreuse jig and/or minnow for spawning fish (mostly small now) or 7 - 10 ft deep for fish moving in or out of spawning areas. Trollers have been picking up some catfish and White Bass.

Bream are in the same areas as bass. Fish redworms under a bobber.

The spillway had one gate open 12.5 ft (3975 cfs) Tuesday.

White Bass, Largemouth Bass, crappie, and catfish are being caught. For crappie, fish jigs and/or minnows under a weighted bobber either along the rocks or in the old river run. White Bass and a few largemouths are biting crankbaits and tailspinner lures; White Bass are averaging about 2 lb. White Bass are in the current, largemouths are along the rocks or other off-current areas. For catfish, fish nightcrawlers under a slip bobber just off the bottom. For crappie, fish the old river run or along the rocks with a jig and/or minnow under a bobber. A 4 lb 10 oz (hand-held scales) White Crappie was landed in the spillway April 12.

Grenada Lake - 3/30/2021 4:21:41 PM

Largemouth Bass are moving from major creek coves (secondary points) up into creeks. Fish soft plastics, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover.

Crappie: Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports fishing was good last week, including wading, until Saturday's rains. Fishing has slowed since, but a few are being caught. Fish are scattered and staging out from spawning areas as they move to major creek coves and up creeks (hint, fish 8 – 10 ft deep in creeks). Fish a black/chartreuse, red/chartreuse, or orange/chartreuse jig and/or minnow 5 – 10 ft deep near cover. Fish will move shallower as it warms up. The Bryant’s and South Graysport Landing areas have been popular.

Bream are in the same areas as bass. Fish redworms under a bobber.

Catfish: Very good reports have come from fishing nightcrawlers from the bank in the Bryant's Landing area at night, but similar areas should be producing as well. Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over flats or on worms or stink baits in tributaries as long as rainfall runoff lasts.

White Bass have started their spawning run up the rivers and creeks; fish jigs or small crankbaits. Otherwise, use the same baits over sandy main lake points.

The rain last weekend has the water rising and muddy; more rain and cold weather is predicted this week. Fishing will be off until the water level stabilizes, starts to clear, and warms up. Water falling, fish deeper; water rising, fish shallower.

Grenada Lake 3/23/2021 4:27:11 PM

Largemouth Bass are moving from main lake points into major creek coves (secondary points) and up creeks. Fish soft plastics, spinnerbaits, or bladed jigs near any cover.

Crappie: Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports last week's rise and cold front slowed the fishing; windy weather has also made fishing a challenge. Fish are scattered and staging out from spawning areas as they move to major creek coves and up creeks. The shallow bite, especially wading, has turned off. Fish a black/chartreuse, red/chartreuse, or orange/chartreuse jig and/or minnow 3 – 6 ft deep in 5 to 7 ft of water near cover.

Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over flats or on worms or stink baits in tributaries. Expect the river and creek bite to pick up with expected rainfall runoff.

White Bass have started their spawning run up the rivers and creeks; fish jigs or small crankbaits. Otherwise, use the same baits over sandy main lake points.

Grenada Lake - 3/2/2021 2:28:58 PM

The water level rose about 10 ft since last Tuesday's report. Most boat ramps are accessible.

Largemouth bass should be in the clearest available water (usually near the dam) on any cover, on main lake points, or tributaries where soft plastics or a bladed jig are best baits.

Crappie: Collins' Bait Shop 662-226-3581 reports crappie fishing has been slow lately with the fast rise. Best luck is either jigging (with advanced electronics), trolling, or drifting along the dam and in the mouths of major creeks with jigs and/or minnows or jigging in any cover. The Magnolia Crappie Club Big Mama tournament is this Saturday, March 6.

Bream are in the same areas as bass. Fish redworms under a bobber.

Catfish: Fish various natural baits on noodles (jugs) or trotlines over recently flooded flats or on worms or stink baits in tributaries as long as the rainfall runoff lasts.

White bass: Some White Bass may have started their spawning run up the rivers and creeks; fish jigs or small crankbaits. Otherwise, use the same baits over sandy main lake points.
