Lake Lamar Bruce Fishing Report - 9/20/2023 2:05:13 PM
Largemouth Bass The fishing has been slow for the last week. Bass are still schooling, but getting them to bite remains tricky. Small topwater shad-immitators like flukes or Rapala Originals are good bets for the schooling fish. Others are going for bigger bites in deep water along drop-offs with jigs, Carolina-rigs and shakeyheads fished nice and slow. Most anglers are fishing the morning and evening bites with very little action reported during the day.
Crappie Targeting brushtops and cover in deeper water should produce a few crappie for persistent anglers. Jigs and minnows are both effective.
Bream Few anglers have been out bream fishing. Most are targeting cover around bedding areas, but success has been spotty. Tightlined worms and crickets are popular bait options.
Catfish Right around sunset has been the best time to catch catfish. Targeting points, drop-offs, and off the earthen piers with liver or cut shad should get some bites.

Largemouth Bass The bite and the traffic are still slow. Lots of schooling reported, but they’re tough to catch and mostly smaller fish. Small swim baits and top water walkers like a Zara Spook are good bets for those schooling bass. Fishing slow in deep water is the ticket the rest of the time. Texas-rigs, jigs, Carolina-rigs, and shakeyheads will all do the trick there.
Crappie No crappie reports this week. Targeting brushtops and cover in deeper water should produce a few for anglers persistent enough to sit out in the heat and fish slow.
Bream The bream report is poor. Most anglers are fishing primary drop-offs around bedding areas, but with limited success. Tightlined worms remain the most popular bait option.
Catfish Right around sunset has been the best time to catch catfish. Worms, chicken liver and stinkbait are popular bait options.

Largemouth Bass The bass bite has been fair. Most anglers are throwing various topwater lures and spinnerbaits around cover in the early morning and late evening hours. In between those times, particularly after noon, anglers are moving deeper and targeting points and other off-shore structure. Texas/Carolina-rigged plastics, jigs, and shakeyheads are popular techniques there.
Crappie The crappie report continues to be poor with few anglers targeting them. The few fish being caught are coming from brush tops and cover in deeper water and along the levee around the drain structure. Try jigs, worms, and minnows to see which the fish prefer as it changes frequently depending on the conditions.
Bream The bream bite is average. Anglers are catching most of their fish just out from spawning areas along the points and the earthen piers. Any cover on those points and piers is holding fish. Most anglers are tight lining crickets and worms along the primary drop-offs in 4 – 6 ft. of water.
Catfish The catfish bite has been fair. Anglers are catching a few from all piers in the big lake and in the small pond. Liver, worms and stinkbait are all popular bait options.

Crappie Crappie fishing has been a little below average this week. Crappie anglers are fishing along the levee in water from 6 to 17 feet with some success. Most are being caught on worms or minnows.
Bream The bream fishing has been slow. Some are being caught in 6-8 feet of water on brush piles. Crickets and worms are the most popular bait option. Jigs work well too for the artificial bait anglers.
