9/12/2020 The Bokka Beatdown at Lamar Park

A rainy day in Oxford means the Barton’s are thinking about catfishing (worst case) or are getting ready to head to the lake (best most likely case). Last Saturday was no exception.

I told my good friend and neighbor Sankar that me and Cal were going to try and take advantage of the runoff from an afternoon shower and that he and Deekshita (Disha for short) should join us.

They agreed (as they have many times before) and we headed out armed with poles and bread balls seasoned with everything but the bagel mix.

We weren’t there but 45 minutes when a catfish sent the Zebco 33 bite alert screaming. Disha fought the fish like a pro and everyone was pumped. We’d tried so many times before to get the Bokkas on some decent catfish.

15 minutes later another fish sounded the alarm and since the kids were across the lake Sankar grabbed the pole until Disha could get there. He managed to get about a 10 lb catfish just to the dock before he threw the hook.

Sankar was devastated, so badly wanting and so close to having a picture of him with a nice big fish catch to show his buddies. Fortunately, he didn’t have to wait long before another nice sized catfish had his less meal. This time, the hook set was solid and within minutes Sankar had helped his Daughter net two excellent fighting and eating fish.

We iced the fish down and Sankar and Disha came over and cleaned them Monday and we cooked them South Indian style while the kids played in the backyard Tuesday. An exceptional day with friends!
