12/09/18 Snow on the ground and the ducks aren’t moving

I thought cold weather got the ducks moving. And if wasn’t cold before the cold weather, it blew the ducks in. That maybe true. But for where I hunted on this cold Mississippi morning, all it meant was me and Dub got to explore a new flooded field and freeze our butts off in the overcast early morning.

We went to Upper Sardis with our military grade wagon and arriving late, (30 minutes before sunrise), marched out to pond I had previously scouted. As goes with public land, others can change your plans. A team of hunters with more fortitude than I beat me to the punch, so I marched on, apologetically waving until I reached a flooded field on the edge of hardwoods.

Since I was late and didn’t hear any shooting or see ducks, I didn’t put too much effort into my “blind”, knowing I would have to get up to keep from being g extremely cold in the freezing temps.

I simply pulled wagon up to brush, created a roof with 3D netting, and put the dog in the wagon to avoid injury from the cold. He jumped out, but he’d get back in and stay with a stern convincing from the me and the water.

After an hour of cold stillness, we moved on to another low area that appeared to hold winter water per google maps, and found a nice hard to access water hole.
