4/1/2019 Two April Fool’s Day Bass at North Cypress Lake
Mondays are occasionally slow real-job days for me so I decided to go fish North Cypress Lake this morning after running some errands and getting my oil changed.
I brought some cane poles in addition to my arsenal of Zebco 33 and Abu Garcia Silver Max feels. I started fishing around 11 and was determined to catch fish at some place other than the levee.
A cold front had blown in the night before so I decided to start out with a scaled down presentation, opting for a Texas rigged Arkie Crawfish Jig Trailer in black and blue. Off a main lake point, I quickly landed the first bass of the day.
I received several more strikes but failed to realize I wasn’t getting solid hook sets due to an anti-reverse mechanism failure that occasionally happens with the Zebco 33’s.
After working the mouth of the creek channel, I regressed to levee fishing and caught another largemouth bass near the spillway.
Despite 10+ MPH winds and post-frontal conditions, the bite was decent. I missed a lot of fish I shouldn’t have due to the Zebco drag engage issue but nonetheless it was a good day on the water. I’ve fished North Cypress Lake now almost six days in a row, so the plan as of late Monday is to fish Denmark, Drewery and Cypress lake for the rest of the week, but we’ll see if I can stick to the plan. Tight lines!
