3/6/2021 All Guides, Dogs, and Birds on Deck
Big day for the Q Ranch. Big day for the wirehaired pointing griffon. Set our 1,000th Q ranch bird on paid hunt and shot our 800th on this double decker day that had Dot with Tom Smith of Wild Rose in Wilson, AR, Bud, Liz, Homer, Josie, Fitz and Blanche with Josh, Colonel, and Marshall in Lambert and me, Dublin, Joker and Verne at the Q ranch. First up was two first rate gentlemen and their impressive and good shooting/well mannered young men. These fellas returned some three dozen birds in a good morning hunt that started with Dublin solo followed by Dublin and Joker.
The afternoon group was a preferred Dad/Son/SIL trio from Senatobia that killed nearly as many birds over first Dublin and Joker followed by Dublin alone then Dublin and Verne. Got to eat two roast beef sandwiches and hunt a griffon about as hard and as long in as hot of conditions as I could and the damn dog stood the test. So thankful for this gig and all that “easy quail money*”
*If you know about easy quail money, then continue to next or previous post. If you don’t, let’s meet up one day in the sub-freezing conditions and drive around in a convertible stopping every few minutes to catch birds and slog back to the mule and catch dogs and clean near frozen birds from the day prior so we can hurry up and set the coon trap while there is still some dark left and I’ll tell you all about it.
