Water level 199.44, rising 0.5 ft/day, 2.1 ft over rule curve Tuesday. Water level are supposed to rise from winter pool (193 ft) January 15 to 198 ft by March 1. Be sure to check the date on the table as it is not always updated daily.
With several inches of rainfall predicted this week, expect spillway gates to be lowered or closed and reservoir water levels to rise. Expect cold, muddy inflows. Collins' Bait Shop (662)226-3581 reports there have been few reports from the reservoir lately with water levels quickly rising and falling and rising again. Best luck for crappie has been trolling or drifting in the main lake or jigging in any remaining cover with jigs and/or minnows. For Largemouth Bass, fish soft plastics or a jig-n-pig around cover in the clearest water available, usually coves near the dam. If there is a warming trend later this week, expect some White Bass to move into the rivers and creeks where they can be taken on jigs or small crankbaits fished over sandbars. There are no Striped or Hybrid Striped Bass in the reservoir, just White Bass. Catfish will bite in the runoff; fish worms or stink baits with the gear of your choice (rod-and-reel, trotine, etc.).
The spillway was releasing 3100 cfs Tuesday. Right now, best fishing has been in the spillway with crappie, catfish, and White Bass landed recently. Whether that continues if the gates are shut depends on how much the water backs up from upstream. Fish jigs and/or minnows under a bobber on the rocks (White Bass or crappie) or in the old river run (crappie). Catfishing is best in eddies on natural bait fished near the bottom.
