Sardis Lake - 2/19/2019 3:22:38 PM
Water level 247.07, rising 1.0 ft/day, 6.9 ft over rule curve Tuesday. Water level is supposed to rise from winter pool (236 ft) January 15 to 241 ft by March 1. For water level information, call (662)563-4531 or check at http://mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/docs/bullet.txt for a table or http://mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/plots/sardplot.png for a graph or http://www.mvk-wc.usace.army.mil/resrep.htm for both. Be sure to check the date on the table as it is not always updated daily.
With several inches of rainfall predicted this week, expect spillway gates to be reduced or shut off and water levels to rise. Cold, muddy inflows are expected. Best luck for crappie has been drifting or trolling jigs and/or minnows around the dam, over the river channel in the main lake, or the mouths of major creeks. If there is a warming trend later this week, some White Bass will move up the river and creeks where they can be caught fishing jigs or small crankbaits over sandbars. There are no Striped or Hybrid Striped Bass in the reservoir, just White Bass. For Largemouth Bass, try Engineer's Point and the dam, but also around any cover in the main lake; fish soft plastics, jigging spoons, or a jig-n-pig. Some catfish will bite in the cold runoff; fish worms or stink baits with your gear of choice (rod-and-reel, trotlines, etc.).
The spillway had two gates open 6.0 ft each (2150 cfs) Tuesday AM. Expect the gates to be cut back or shut off this week. Best luck in the spillway and Lower Lake is when some water is being released. For crappie, fish jigs and/or minnows out of the current or right along the rocks. Catfishing is best in eddies on natural bait fished near the bottom. White Bass will be in the current where you can drift a 2 jig rig just off bottom (watch the rocks!) or fish small crankbaits or tailspinner lures. For largemouths, cover in the old river run is the best bet, or fish right on the rocks in the spillway with crankbaits or a jig-n-pig.
Sardis COE personnel have closed the Hurricane Creek ramp road to have the road repaved, including repairs to the road out to the Indian Mound ramp. Although it will be an inconvenience until it is completed, it will be nice to have the potholes gone. Contact the COE office to see when it is expected to reopen.
